At first glance, it does look funny, but the functionality of this floor lamp is anything but laughable.

Vladimir Tomilov is the creative mind behind the “Octopussy”, a floor lamp with ‘tentacles’ for legs and a ‘giant eye’ for light. The branding for Kalypso Hotel, a hotel in the island of Crete, was undertaken as a college project by Con Papanestis. He took inspiration from the location of the hotel when choosing the colors, strongly influenced by Crete’s azure sea and sky, and the simple, sweeping lines of the waves of the ocean.

But let us not be literal, since the name “Wind Shaped Pavilion’ is used on a different context. In ancient Egyptian mythology, there is an evil demon that embodies pure darkness and chaos. It is named Apepi or, in Greek, Apophis. Now perhaps you’re wondering why a USB flash drive would be named after a demon god. Well, it’s not. This flash drive is actually named after the near-earth asteroid 99942 Apophis. With a width of 390 meters, this asteroid, which first manifested itself in December 2004, shows signs of colliding with Earth on April 13, 2036. Very Doomsday-ish, but there is no denying that it has an impact, literally and figuratively. As is the design of this unique USB flash drive.
