Hatziyiannakis Dragees Packaging – packaging designed by mousegraphics

Dragées are basically small, bite-sized confectionery with a hard outer shell for coating. In Greece, the first name when it comes to the manufacture of dragées is Hatziyiannakis, and in its 60-year stint in the industry, they have come up with a new product: edible pebbles.

Pebbles, you say? Who would want to eat pebbles? Well, no one in their right mind would. But these are no ordinary ‘pebbles’, so it follows that the company should also come up with a matching extraordinary packaging to go with it. Guess who was up to the task? You guessed right, it’s mousegraphics.

Taking into account the reputation of Hatziyiannakis of producing top-of-the-class and award-winning dragées, mousegraphics has come up with packaging that would soften that hard (and hard-to-swallow) impression of eating dragée pebbles while still simulating that image of quality and style that Hatziyiannakis has always been known for. Aside from their usuals – sugar dragées with almond, sugar dragées with chocolate, crispy dragées and sugar dragées with nut and chocolate – the pebbles are also something special. Yes, instead of sugared or coated almond, you will have pebbles with various fillings that will definitely sate your sweet cravings.

You will find some of these pebbles filled with an assortment of preserved walnuts or amarena cherries. Before being coated with sugar, they are evenly dipped in dark chocolate. Thus, we have the Chocolate Cherry Amarena (first row, third from left), the Chocolate Cherry (second row, first from left), as well as the Chocolate Sour Cherry (second row, third from left). Greek culture is also apparent in some of these pebbles. The Kumquat is identified largely with the island of Kerkyra (first row, second from left), and when dipped in dark chocolate prior to sugar coating, it is referred to as the Chocolate Kumquat. Also worth mentioning is the persipan-filled Milos pebble, which is the creation of a marzipan-like paste from apricot kernels.
