CONCEPT CARS: The Limited Edition Jaguar C-X75
Luxury and sports car manufacturer Jaguar is at it again… and we are not complaining.
Debuting at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the concept car C-X75 wowed and bowled over car lovers and enthusiasts. In honor of the British company’s 75th year, it was named C-X75, with C and X standing for Concept and Experimental, respectively.
This super car is powered by four 194 hp (or 145 kWh) electric motors, each one weighing 110 lbs (50 kg). It boasts micro-gas turbines that have been configured to run on a wide range of fuels, including biofuels, diesel, LPG, and compressed natural gas. Moreover, it runs on battery power provided by a 15 kWh lithium ion battery pack. However, the electric motor still boasts an all-electric range of 68 miles (110 km).
To improve the C-X75’s performance through aerodynamics, it comes with an aerofoil that instinctively and automatically lowers as the car gains speed on the open road. Air flow from beneath the car is also vastly improved, thanks to the carbon-fiber rear diffuser.
The C-X75 is quite a light car, thanks to the extruded and bonded chassis that is made from aluminum. The lightness, along with the electric power from the motor and the turbines will give you a smooth and swift ride. In fact, the turbines alone can help the C-X75 go 60 miles per hour (with no warm up period). Not surprising, considering each turbine can pump as much as 95 hp.
Jaguar made an announcement on May 2011 that they will produce 250 limited editions of this concept car to the market, in collaboration with the Williams F1 team of Formula One. This time, the C-X75 will have a turbo-charged hybrid 4-cylinder motor. The limited edition models will be manufactured during the period 2013 to 2015.
Among the “upgrades” done on the original concept that will appear on the concept that will be produced on a limited basis to the public include a chassis that is made from carbon fiber. For a more even weight distribution, even the engine will be mounted lower than usual.
Left- and right-hand drive versions of this super car will be made available to the market. However, one other upside to this concept car is how the user or owner will have the freedom to choose the color and interior finish for his C-X75.
No doubt about it, this limited edition Jaguar is one sweet ride. Are you going to be one of the proud owners of the 250 C-X75s that will soon be roaming the high streets?
