Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union Logo Design
“Transition” and “Exploration” are two of the most pervasive themes when the European Union is mentioned. Thus, it felt only right that these two were integrated into the design of the logo of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
For this project, Beetroot Design got the commission to design the logo.
An allegorical presentation of transition and exploration was incorporated into the logo design, representing the European people’s quest for productivity, growth and development via collaboration and a harmonious relationship between, and among, them. The design was also particular in showing the the past and the present are, and will always be, connected.
The focal point of the logo is a sailboat in full sail, strategically drawn to represent the acronym of the European Union, which is EU, but in small letters. During ancient times, the people in Europe connected with each other through this quaint yet useful mode of transport. This is Beetroot’s interpretation of harking back to the roots or beginnings of the Union. In present-day situations, it can also be interpreted as the European people sailing together towards a common or shared goal.
